Job Description:

Childcare Solicitor - Luton (Local Authority role)

Initial 3-6 month contract

Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella) Indicate rate sought

 

Agile working to suit business needs.

Courts are usually in the Borough of Luton, occasionally in surrounding area.

 

  1. Give legal advice, often in relation to complex matters, to Officers and Members of the Council as required to allow them to make decisions and achieve solutions to problems that comply with the law
  2. Represent the Council before Courts and Tribunals as an unsupervised advocate conducting cases in a way that complies with current practice and protocols and take all reasonable steps to achieve the judgements/decisions, which could reasonably be expected from the available evidence.  
  3. Supervision of Junior Staff in order to meet the objectives of the department and provide an effective service delivery for the benefit of all service users
  4. Carry out, with a limited supervision, other legal work as required, including the drafting of any necessary documents (but excluding conveyancing and similar property matters) to implement decisions taken in pursuance of the Council's functions
  5. Prepare reports for and attend and give legal and procedural advice including in relation to complex matters to the Executive, to any Committee or Members of such Executive and to such Committees, Sub-Committees, Working Parties and other groups of Members or Officers as may be required to enable decisions to be taken and implemented in accordance with the law
