£41,511 - £44,711 (£21.52 - £23.24 per hour) or £45,718 - £49,764 (£23.70 - £25.79 per hour) per annum, pro rata

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives. This is a Temporary Contract Covering Maternity Leave. About the RoleWe are recruiting a Lawyer / Senior Lawyer (Grade 9 / 10 £41,511 - £49,764) to join our legal team to cover maternity leave of up to 12 months. The working hours are flexible depending on the candidate but likely to be up to 30 hours per week.
You will be an experienced solicitor, barrister or legal executive working in partnership with the Council’s Children’s Services teams. You will be dedicated to providing advice on all aspects of child safeguarding and in so doing improving peoples’ lives. Due to the temporary nature of this role, there is no requirement to conduct advocacy and therefore applicants without rights of advocacy will considered.
Within this role you will be expected to:
- Handle a full caseload of children law cases and provide advice on all aspect of public law children matters
- Attend legal meetings
- Draft documents including letters, statements and threshold documents
About the TeamThe People Legal Team provides legal advice to the Council mainly in relation to child and adult protection, education and employment. This role specifically relates to advice and representation in relation to care proceedings, pre-proceedings, and other public law children matters. You will require a comprehensive knowledge of the work practices, processes, procedures and policies relating to the service area.
