Locum Governance Solicitor
Local Authority | South East England
Initial 3–6 Month Contract | Hybrid Working

A Local Authority in the South East is seeking an experienced Locum Governance Solicitor to join their legal team on an interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity to support a well-established governance function, working on a varied and interesting caseload within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising Members and Officers on governance, constitutional, and local government law matters

  • Drafting and advising on committee reports, delegations, and decision-making processes

  • Providing support for Council, Cabinet, and committee meetings

  • Advising on ethical standards, Member conduct, and related governance issues

  • Supporting the Monitoring Officer as required

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive

  • Proven experience working within a local authority governance function

  • Strong knowledge of local government law and constitutional matters

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload
