Job Description:

We have an exciting role on offer within our Legal Services as a Lawyer (Children’s Welfare).

The Council’s Legal Services team is committed to providing a quality service to the Council, for the benefit of the people of Middlesbrough, and we are now looking to expand our welfare team by appointing an experienced Children's welfare lawyer.

This Children's Solicitor role is focused on Duty Solicitor responsibilities, providing expert advice and support on ad hoc and urgent childcare matters. The successful candidate will undertake advocacy in court for urgent hearings and applications, responding quickly to emerging issues across the service. The post does not carry a caseload, making it an ideal opportunity for a solicitor who enjoys varied, fast-paced work and the challenge of handling urgent matters as they arise.

This role comes with the demands and challenges you would expect working on children’s wellbeing matters but it is exceptionally rewarding working together to achieve the best outcomes for vulnerable children.

You do not need experience of working in local government, but the successful applicant will have experience of children welfare matters, will be an effective team player, and have excellent advocacy, interpersonal and communication skills.

In return, as well as being an excellent place to work we can offer you a supportive environment and benefits such as home/office blended working, flexi working, generous annual leave, a great pension, and much more!

If you like the sound of the role and would like to know more about this fantastic opportunity please contact Rhian Seymour on 01642 729781 or email at rhian_seymour@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

We operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for applicants that can show they meet all the essential criteria and have indicated they have a disability, are a looked after young person, care leaver or a veteran.
