Job Description:

£44,186 - £46,418 pro rata per annum (including a market supplement of £5,000 pro rata per annum for a period of two years)

Do you want to be part of a welcoming and dedicated team, serving the community and improving lives? You could help Newark & Sherwood District Council to achieve its key strategic objectives, including being a top performing, modern and accessible Council, and regeneration of our local communities.

The role:
We are delighted to be expanding our team and are looking to recruit a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive in relation to contracts and commercial work including commercial property. You will have a diverse caseload with the main focus of the role being contracts and procurement including involvement in the Council’s exciting regeneration projects across the District. Experience in commercial property would be advantageous but training and support can be provided to aid in development. Also, whilst previous local government experience is desirable, it is not essential and we welcome applicants with no local government experience.
The benefits we offer:
  • Enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • A generous annual leave entitlement starting at 26 days (pro rata) and increasing to 36 days with service, plus bank holidays
  • Free car parking*
  • Flexi-time
  • 1 days’ paid volunteering leave
  • A health cashback plan
  • A lifestyle benefits platform including retail discounts, cycle to work scheme and car benefits
  • £10/month membership at one of our four gyms in the district.
The Council has fully embraced new ways of working and home-working arrangements are well established offering a truly hybrid setup including a weekly team day in the office.

What we are looking for in candidates:

The successful candidate will have a flexible, positive, enthusiastic approach; you will be a lawyer who enjoys the diverse caseload of a District Council and has excellent advising, drafting and negotiation skills.

Whilst this is being advertised as a full-time role, we would welcome applications to undertake the role on a part-time or job share basis

For an informal chat, or more information, please contact Bryony Norman, Principal Legal Officer – Commercial on 01636 655372 or at bryony.norman@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.

To apply, please submit your CV and covering letter, detailing how you meet the essential criteria for the role, via the Enquire/Apply button. A covering letter addressing the essential criteria for the post will be considered far more favourably than a generic covering letter and CV.

*Free staff parking is valid until 31st July 2024.

Closing date: 26 April 2024 @ 12:00
