Job Description:

Locum Principal Housing Lawyer (Disrepair) – Midlands – 3-6 months + – Hybrid (Predominantly Remote) – Up to £65 per hour Umbrella
 
Venn group’s specialist legal team are currently recruiting for a Principle Housing Disrepair Lawyer to join a reputable local authority in the Midlands.
 
This is a Locum position, on a rolling contract basis with an initial term of 3-6 months. The role will be full time, predominantly remote working, with once-a-week in office attendance. Initial IT collection will also be in person.
 
Area of law: Housing Disrepair
Rate: Up to £65 per hour (Umbrella)
 
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with strong housing litigation experience
  • Significant experience handling housing disrepair matters
  • Strong litigation and case management skills
  • Advocacy experience and confidence representing clients at court
  • Previous Local Authority or wider Public Sector experience is highly desirable
 
Duties and responsibilities for this post may include:
  • Managing a high-volume caseload of housing disrepair claims
  • Assisting another principal lawyer, and managing and supporting a team of lawyers, legal officers and paralegals 
  • Providing legal advice and guidance to officers, senior stakeholders and client departments
  • Negotiating settlements and progressing matters efficiently
  • Representing the authority at court hearings, including directions and allocation hearings
  • Drafting pre-litigation letters of claim, pleadings, agreements and other legal documentation
  • Working closely with surveyors, contractors and internal teams to resolve disrepair matters
  • Advising on legal and procedural developments in housing law
  • Ensuring matters are progressed in accordance with relevant legal, regulatory and procedural requirements
