Help shape the future of East Devon

Are you an organised and proactive legal professional looking to develop your career in a varied and rewarding role? Do you want to be part of a supportive and high-performing legal team that makes a real difference to local communities?

At East Devon District Council, we are looking for a Paralegal to join our Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of legal matters that directly support the delivery of council services and contribute to the wellbeing of our residents and communities.

About the role
As a Paralegal, you will provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to our Legal Services team, helping to ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality legal advice across the Council.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will manage your own caseload and workload, taking responsibility for matters including:
•    Right to Buy sales
•    Minor works contracts
•    Housing consents
•    Preparing legal documentation and correspondence
•    Responding to enquiries and supporting legal casework
•    Assisting solicitors and colleagues across a range of legal matters

You'll have the opportunity to work independently while also collaborating closely with experienced legal professionals, gaining valuable exposure to local government law and practice.

About you
We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.

You will have:
•    A good standard of education
•    Experience within a legal environment, either in private practice or local government
•    Excellent organisational and administrative skills
•    The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
•    Strong attention to detail and accuracy
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    The confidence to work independently and as part of a team

Experience or knowledge of local government legal services would be advantageous, but most importantly, we're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable and eager to contribute to a successful team.

Why join us?
At East Devon District Council, you'll be joining an organisation that is committed to supporting both its communities and its people.

Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge described EDDC as "a great place to work, with engaged staff and members" and we are proud to foster a culture where colleagues feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed.

We offer:
•    Flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements
•    A strong commitment to learning, development and career progression
•    A comprehensive range of health and wellbeing initiatives
•    A supportive and inclusive working environment
•    The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the communities of East Devon

You'll become part of a team dedicated to creating great value services and helping to build an outstanding community, economy and environment for current and future generations.
