Locum Prosecutions & Licensing Lawyer – 6 months + - Predominantly Remote Working – Up to £65-£70 per hour Umbrella – MidlandsVenn Group is working with a well-regarded Midlands local authority seeking an experienced
Locum Prosecutions & Licensing Lawyer to join their legal team on an initial six-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with local government experience to manage a varied caseload of prosecution and licensing matters within a supportive and flexible working environment.
The Role- Full-time preferred; part-time applicants will also be considered
- Predominantly remote working arrangement
- Attendance at Court and Licensing Committee hearings approximately 2-3 times per month
- Initial six-month contract with the likelihood of extension
Key Responsibilities: You will have conduct of a diverse caseload of local authority prosecution matters, including:
- Trading Standards prosecutions
- Regulatory and enforcement action
- Non-school attendance cases
- Dangerous structures matters
- Fraud-related prosecutions
- Breaches of licensing conditions
You will be responsible for the full management of prosecution files from inception through to conclusion, including:
- Preparing and reviewing witness statements
- Managing disclosure and unused material
- Preparing cases for court hearings
- Conducting sentencing and costs hearings
- Preparing and managing POCA applications
- Providing legal advice on licensing matters
- Attending Licensing Committee meetings and hearings
Candidate RequirementsThe successful candidate will:
- Be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive
- Have previous experience handling prosecutions and licensing matters within a local authority setting
- Be confident managing files independently
- Have advocacy experience or be comfortable attending court and committee hearings
Rate£65-£70 per hour, dependent on experience.
