Interim Senior Regulatory & Contentious Lawyer
Remote Working | 6 Months+ | Full-Time or Part-Time
We are currently working with a leading Higher Education institution seeking an experienced Interim Senior Regulatory & Contentious Lawyer to join their Legal Services team on an initial 6-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to act as a key legal advisor on a broad range of regulatory and contentious matters within a complex university environment. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will provide strategic and practical legal advice, manage complex legal issues and support senior stakeholders across the institution on matters affecting the University's operations and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as a lead legal advisor on regulatory and contentious matters across the institution
- Advising on the legal relationship between the University and its students, including complex and sensitive matters
- Supporting on regulatory compliance, governance and policy-related issues within the Higher Education framework
- Managing a varied caseload of inquests, civil claims, complaints and pre-litigation disputes
- Taking and reviewing witness statements and supporting case preparation
- Providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Legal Services and the wider institution on multidisciplinary matters
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx with significant experience in regulatory and contentious legal work
- Strong experience handling complex contentious matters and advising at all stages of litigation
- Understanding of the Higher Education sector, regulatory frameworks or wider public sector environment
- Experience dealing with inquests, civil claims, complaints and dispute resolution matters
- Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and manage a varied caseload
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal advice within a complex organisation
- Willingness to attend campus on occasion would be advantageous
