Locum Adult Social Care Lawyer
Hourly Rate: £60 per hour umbrella
Location: Northern Local Authority
Sector: Local Government
Duration: 6 Months
Working Arrangement: Full Time, Remote Working

Reed Legal is working in partnership with a well-established Northern Local Authority to recruit an experienced Locum Adult Social Care Lawyer for an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and experienced legal team, advising on a broad range of Adult Social Care matters with the flexibility of fully remote working.

The Role
You will provide specialist legal advice to Adult Social Care teams, managing a varied caseload of mental capacity, Court of Protection, and safeguarding matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the authority on complex and often sensitive cases involving vulnerable adults.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a caseload of Adult Social Care matters, including Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection cases.
  • Advising Adult Services teams on mental health, community care, safeguarding, and social care legislation.
  • Handling Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) matters and related applications.
  • Providing legal support in relation to welfare, residence, care, and capacity disputes.
  • Drafting court applications, witness statements, legal advice, and associated documentation.
  • Advising on statutory duties under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983, and associated legislation.
  • Working closely with social workers, managers, and external stakeholders to support the delivery of Adult Social Care services.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with:
  • Demonstrable experience handling Adult Social Care matters within a Local Authority setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and Court of Protection procedures.
  • Experience dealing with Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and capacity-related matters.
  • The ability to manage a busy caseload independently and provide pragmatic legal advice to operational teams.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
