Hourly Rate: £60 per hour umbrella
Location: East Yorkshire Local Authority

Start Date: ASAP

Reed Legal is working in partnership with a well-regarded East Yorkshire Local Authority to recruit an experienced Locum Housing Litigation Lawyer for an ongoing assignment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and supportive legal team, managing a varied caseload of housing litigation matters and undertaking regular advocacy on behalf of the authority.

The Role
You will provide specialist legal advice to Housing Services, managing a caseload of housing litigation matters from inception through to conclusion. The successful candidate will support the authority on a broad range of contentious housing issues and will be required to undertake advocacy at court hearings as part of the role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a caseload of housing litigation matters, including possession proceedings, injunctions, anti-social behaviour cases, and homelessness challenges.
  • Providing legal advice to Housing Services, officers, and senior stakeholders.
  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, injunction applications, notices, and court documentation.
  • Conducting advocacy at County Court hearings and other tribunals where required.
  • Advising on tenancy enforcement, disrepair claims, unlawful occupation matters, and housing management issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant housing legislation, case law, and local government procedures.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with:
  • Demonstrable experience handling housing litigation matters within a Local Authority or public sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of housing law, including possession proceedings, anti-social behaviour, homelessness, and tenancy enforcement.
  • Previous advocacy experience and confidence representing clients before the County Court.
  • The ability to manage a busy caseload independently while working collaboratively with Housing Services teams.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
