Job Description:

Locum Senior Planning Lawyer – South of England – Full Time (4 Days Minimum) – Up to £65 per Hour Umbrella

Venn Group's specialist legal team are currently recruiting for an experienced Locum Senior Planning Lawyer to join a Local Authority in the South of England on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive legal team, advising on a varied planning law caseload while providing specialist expertise across planning and governance matters.

The Role:

Duration: Initial 3 months with likely extension
Working Pattern: Full Time (minimum 4 days per week), Remote Working (although a hybrid arrangement preferred if local) – monthly planning committee attendance required
Rate: Up to £65 per hour Umbrella, dependent on experience
Start: Mid-August start date

Role Responsibilities:

  • Managing a complex planning law caseload, including drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements
  • Advising on planning matters, including Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and recent legislative changes
  • Supporting Judicial Review matters and ensuring compliance with relevant procedural deadlines
  • Attending monthly Planning Committee meetings
  • Using case management and time recording systems to manage workload effectively
  • Advising officers and members on planning law and governance matters

Candidate Requirements:

  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements
  • Strong working knowledge of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of recent and forthcoming planning law changes
  • Previous experience managing or supporting Judicial Review matters
  • Experience using case management and time recording systems

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience attending Licensing Committees and Sub-Committees
  • Knowledge of taxi and/or premises licensing
  • Ability to provide committee support across a range of local authority functions
  • Contract drafting experience
  • Planning enforcement and prosecution experience
  • Experience reviewing committee reports across a range of local authority matters
