Job Description:
£46,142 - £50,269 per annum
Applications are invited from an enthusiastic, innovative, suitably qualified and experienced Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX to deal with a variety of matters relevant to the subject area. You will be expected to conduct and manage your own caseload.
You must be able to communicate effectively with members, senior officers and
outside agencies.
The role will include advising on Additional Learning Needs (ALN) matters, including IDP queries, disputes and claims, and having conduct of claims and appeals before the Education Tribunal for Wales. You will also oversee the preparation and conduct of admission and exclusion appeals, including clerking appeal panels where required, and advising schools and the education department on statutory duties, processes and risk.
The postholder will also be required to assist, as necessary, with Adult Services legal work. This will include advising on adult safeguarding, mental capacity and best interests decision-making, and advising on and having conduct of Court of Protection applications and proceedings. The role may also involve advising on mental health law, including duties under the Mental Health Act, as well as wider adult social care matters.
You must be able to communicate effectively, build strong working relationships, and deliver pragmatic, solution focused advice in a fast-paced environment. Experience of advising in an education or local government context is desirable.
