Locum Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer – 3 months with guarantee of extensions - Remote Working – Full Time – Up to £65 per hour (negotiable  DOE) 

Position: Locum Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer
Organisation: Large Local Authority 
Duration: 3 months with guarantee of extensions
Working Pattern: Full time, can consider condensed hours with a Monday or Wednesday as non-working day
Working Arrangement: Fully remote working  
Hourly Rate: Up to £65 per hour Umbrella - negotiable depending on experience 

Further details on the opportunity:

The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload and advise officers, senior management and social care teams on all aspects of Adult Social Care law. Matters will include duties under the Care Act 2014, care packages, eligibility, charging, ordinary residence disputes, safeguarding responsibilities and associated public law issues.

You will also handle Court of Protection work, including welfare applications, deprivation of liberty matters, capacity disputes, best interests decisions and property and affairs applications. Experience of advising on Mental Capacity Act 2005 issues is essential.

The role will involve supporting safeguarding teams on complex and sensitive matters including Section 42 enquiries, self-neglect, hoarding, domestic abuse concerns and risk management involving vulnerable adults. You will be expected to provide clear, practical advice to operational teams while ensuring the authority remains compliant with its statutory obligations.

Additional responsibilities may include advising on judicial review pre-action matters, complaints, Ombudsman enquiries, data protection issues relating to Adult Social Care, and wider human rights considerations. You will provide supervision, support and oversight to Senior Legal Officers and Legal Officers, assisting with technical queries and workload management. 

The successful candidate will be confident attending meetings with officers and stakeholders, drafting legal documents, instructing counsel where required, and managing deadlines in a high-volume environment. Previous Local Authority experience is essential, and candidates should be able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
