Make a Real Impact Through Your Legal Expertise

Are you a qualified solicitor looking for varied, meaningful work where your advice helps shape places, services and communities? This is a fantastic opportunity to join Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Legal Team and play a key role in delivering high‑quality property, contracts and procurement legal support across the district.

Derbyshire Dales is a council with ambition, flair and imagination, driven by continuous improvement. Our “One Team, One Council, One Purpose” approach is about working together to create a brighter, better Derbyshire Dales — and our Legal Team is central to making that happen.

The Role
You’ll join a small, friendly and highly supportive legal team, managing a diverse and interesting caseload that includes:
  • Property transactions, leases and disposals
  • Commercial contracts
  • Procurement and associated advice
  • Providing clear, pragmatic legal advice to officers across the Council
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with colleagues from a range of services, contributing to projects that directly support regeneration, service delivery and positive outcomes for local communities.

About You
We’re looking for a qualified solicitor with around two years’ post‑qualification experience, who:
  • Enjoys working across property and commercial legal matters
  • Has strong organisational and time‑management skills
  • Is confident providing practical, solution‑focused advice to non‑legal colleagues
  • Values teamwork, collaboration and a supportive working environment
Experience within local government is welcome but not essential.

Why Join Derbyshire Dales?
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, development and work‑life balance:
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Membership of the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Flexitime, and hybrid working
  • Free onsite parking
  • Discounted leisure centre membership and access to a staff discount platform
This fixed‑term role also offers excellent professional development, with exposure to high‑quality public‑sector work and the chance to broaden your legal experience in a collaborative setting.
