Job Description:

Locum Criminal Litigation Lawyer - South West - 6 months + - Full Time - Predominantly Remote - Court Attendance Only 
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Criminal Litigation Lawyer to join a well-regarded Local Authority in the South West. This is a flexible, predominantly remote role with court attendance required no more than once per week, offering a highly competitive hourly rate and the strong potential for extension.
 
The Position:
  • Contract Length: 6 months initially, subject to likely extension thereafter
  • Working Pattern: Full-time 
  • Location: South West
  • Working Arrangement: Court attendance required up to once per week/fortnight, otherwise the role can be worked remotely
  • Rate: Up to £60 per hour (Umbrella), dependent on experience
 
Key Responsibilities
You will manage a varied and interesting criminal litigation caseload on behalf of the Local Authority, including:
  • Handling all aspects of criminal litigation and licensing
  • Advising and acting on a wide range of regulatory matters, including but not limited to:
    • Fly-tipping
    • Housing offences
    • Non-school attendance
    • Unauthorised encampments
    • Taxi and premises licensing appeals
    • Breach of planning
    • Trading Standards
    • Food hygiene and safety
  • Representing the Council in court where appropriate
 
About You
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister
  • Demonstrable experience in criminal litigation, ideally within a Local Authority setting
  • Experience handling licensing and regulatory matters
  • Confident court advocate with the ability to manage cases autonomously
