Employment Lawyer - Hackney (Local Authority role)

6 Month Contract initially

Hourly rate negotiable - Indicate rate sought

 

Full time role

 

As a Lawyer within our Chief Executive’s Directorate, you will manage a diverse caseload of routine and non-routine employment law matters. You will be a trustedadvisor, providing clear and accurate legal guidance to  various Council services to ensure we meet our corporate objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Expert Advocacy & Drafting: Represent the Council in courts and tribunals and draft complex legal documentation and reports.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide high-quality legal services and briefings to clients, colleagues, and Members.
  • Case Management: Maintain a demanding caseload using our case management system, aiming for a target of 1200 chargeable hours per annum.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior officers, external partners, and the public, maintaining professional relationships across the board.
  • Governance: Act as a safeguard by notifying leadership of any potential breaches of legislation or rules of propriety.

Education & Experience:

  • Qualified Professional: You must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister (Supreme Court of England and Wales/English Bar), or a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Proven experience in Employment Law is essential.
  • Local Government Savvy: An understanding of the unique challenges facing a multi-cultural inner-city area.
  • Proven Track Record: Experience in research, complex legal arguments, and achieving chargeable hours targets.
