Job Description:

£45,091 - £46,142 per annum

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Lawyer (Contracts & Commercial) to join our Legal & Democratic Services team. You will provide high‑quality, practical and commercial legal advice across a range of matters, supporting the Council to deliver its strategic and operational objectives.

You will handle a varied caseload, and will be involved in contract drafting, procurement support, commercial negotiations, and providing advice on governance and decision‑making. There will also be opportunities to contribute to major projects and corporate initiatives.

In this role you will be managing a caseload of contract and commercial matters, providing pragmatic and solutions-focused legal advice to internal clients, and representing the Council where required. You will support strategic planning, project work, governance, scrutiny, and policy development, while advising on the implications of legislative and regulatory developments within your specialist area. You will also support less experienced colleagues and contribute to the continuous improvement of Legal Services.

Who we are looking for…

You will hold a professional legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive) and be entitled to practise. You’ll have strong experience in at least one relevant specialist area, together with the confidence to manage complex files and contribute to key corporate activity.
