About Legal

Our Legal team provides clear, reliable advice that helps ensure decisions across the council are lawful, transparent, and in the best interests of residents. Working closely with services across the organisation, the team offers practical guidance that supports open and accountable ways of working. Their accurate and timely advice helps maintain the integrity of council processes, strengthens good governance, and builds public trust.

The service is made up of specialist teams covering areas such as childcare, adult social care, planning, governance, employment, and commercial law. Their work ranges from supporting frontline safeguarding to advising on complex projects and policy development. Each team helps colleagues understand legal responsibilities and navigate challenges with confidence and clarity.

Together, these teams play an essential role in supporting high‑quality services for communities across Wiltshire. Through partnership working, early engagement, and clear communication, Legal Services helps the council respond effectively to local needs and deliver positive, well‑informed outcomes for residents.
