About this opportunity

Westmorland & Furness Council is seeking a motivated and organised Legal Officer to support the delivery of high-quality legal services. This role involves working on a range of legal transactions, casework and wider legal support functions across the team.

This is an excellent development opportunity for someone wishing to build or further their career in local government legal practice.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing a caseload of non-routine matters within your relevant specialist area.
  • Supporting litigation processes or regulatory matters where relevant to the role.
  • Supporting lawyers, senior legal officers and managers with a variety of legal tasks.
  • Contributing to service planning and the maintenance of high practice standards.
  • Providing supervision and informal support to more junior colleagues.

Who we are looking for…

You will bring either a Level 3 CILEX qualification or at least 3 years’ relevant experience with a willingness to achieve Level 3 CILEX (within an agreed timescale). You will have sound knowledge of legal practice, strong organisational skills, and an ability to manage competing priorities.
