Job Description:

Locum Planning Lawyer – Midlands – £55–60 per hour (Umbrella) – Hybrid Working – 2 to 2.5 Year Assignment
 
Venn Group’s specialist Legal team are currently recruiting for a Locum Planning Lawyer to join a Local Authority in the Midlands on a long-term interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Planning Lawyer to support the authority through to Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) within a supportive and collaborative legal team.
 
The Role:
  • Position: Locum Planning Lawyer
  • Duration: Initial 2-year assignment, with potential to extend to 2.5 years
  • Rate: £55–£60 per hour umbrella
  • Working Pattern: Full time, but part time considered
  • Working Arrangement: Hybrid working – ideally office presence weekly (flexible), with some on-site attendance essential for team integration and morale
  • Committee Attendance: Monthly planning committee attendance required
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Managing a general planning law caseload within a Local Authority setting
  • Drafting, negotiating, and advising on Section 106 Agreements
  • Advising on Unilateral Undertakings (UU’s)
  • Supporting planning committees and providing legal advice as required
  • Ensuring compliance with internal governance procedures and relevant legislation
  • Working collaboratively with planning officers, committee members, and other stakeholders
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with recent Local Authority planning law experience
  • Strong experience handling Section 106 agreements and unilateral undertakings
  • Confident advising members and officers on planning matters
  • Able to commit to occacsional office attendance and committee meetings
  • Strong communication, drafting, and stakeholder management skills
