Job Description:

Assistant Prosecutions Lawyer (Housing and Litigation)

Greenwich, London (Local Authority role)

6 Month Contract Initially

Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella)

 

35 hours per week

Hybrid working, with in office 2 days a week, Mondays & Tuesdays

 

As Assistant Prosecutions Lawyer (Housing and Litigation), you will play a key role in supporting the Council’s Regulatory and Licensing functions. You’ll be responsible for a varied and rewarding caseload focused on licensing & prosecutions law in relation to criminal litigation and licensing matters, with the opportunity to advocate directly in the Magistrates Courts.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • A qualified solicitor, barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).
  • Strong understanding of Licensing and Prosecution law, with relevant experience.
  • To have full conduct of a caseload of criminal litigation matters, taking instructions, negotiating with relevant parties, preparing matters for court proceedings, drafting pleadings, informations, and all relevant documents, liaising with solicitors, the courts and external agencies and all ancillary matters.
  • To have full conduct of licensing matters receiving instructions, liaising with relevant parties, assisting with the preparation of matters for consideration by the Council’s Licensing Committee.
  • To appear as advocate on behalf of the Council before the Magistrates Court, or instruct Counsel as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to the Council’s values, equality, and service excellence.
