£26,832 - £28,146 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

Leicestershire County Council has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join its Environment and Property Team dealing with a wide range of highway agreements and orders.

We would welcome applications from a broad range of candidates and in particular those candidates working in a legal environment. Experience of working in local government is not necessary. The ideal candidate should have or working towards a Legal Executive qualification or equivalent ; or possess a relevant third qualification.

About the Role

To deal with the processing of a range of orders necessary to undertake works on public highways including the extinguishment of highway rights, the creation and/or modification of public rights of way, as well as the preparation of a range of standard highway agreements, licences and notices.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Should be qualified or be training towards a Legal Executive qualification or equivalent, or have a relevant third qualification.
  • Ability to understand and apply statutory provisions and procedures as well as the ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Good drafting, planning, and organisation skills, and able to prioritise work effectively. 
  • Able to make decisions on where and to whom to refer legal matters.
  • Must be computer literate with recent experience of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and computerised case management systems. With an organised and methodical attention to detail.
  • Must be professional, approachable, co-operative, courteous and diplomatic.

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.
