The Role & Responsibilities: 

Are you an experienced legal professional looking for a new challenge? Growth in the team means Dover District Council is looking to recruit a Litigation Lawyer to join our Legal Services team. This is a great opportunity to provide expert advice and representation across a wide range of litigation and regulatory matters.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality legal services to all Council departments.
  • Advising officers and members on litigation and regulatory issues.
  • Managing your own caseload effectively.
  • Preparing and representing the Council in civil and criminal litigation, including advocacy where appropriate.
  • Providing guidance on regulatory functions such as housing, property management, environmental health, health & safety, and planning enforcement.
  • Interpreting new legislation and case law to ensure compliance and best practice.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with a current practising certificate (essential)
  • Sound knowledge of legal principle in law and practice of the civil and criminal courts (essential).
  • Knowledge and experience of regulatory functions e.g. housing, property management (disrepair), private sector housing, environmental health, health & safety, and planning enforcement.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local government law and practice.
  • Brings at least two years’ experience in a relevant legal role (desirable).
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent (desirable).
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
