Senior Legal Officer - Property

Luton (Local Authority role)

Initial 3-6 month contract

Rate: circa £30 per hour (Umbrella)

 

Full time, 37 hours per week

To assist in the provision of an effective, efficient comprehensive and professional in-house legal service to  proactively progress allocated Right to Buy cases in accordance with all the relevant legislative and procedural requirements in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner

 

To provide administrative support to the Property Planning and Contracts team (and/or possibly other Legal Services’ teams) to assist in supporting the day-to-day operations of Legal Services as well as the service delivery that is provided to clients.

 

  1. To undertake all aspects of the undermentioned legal and support tasks in an efficient and effective manner with appropriate supervision ensuring all tasks and responsibilities are completed to agreed timescales with a high standard of accuracy
  2. Manage a high-volume caseload of Right to Buy Matters under strict deadlines.
  3. Draft and prepare legal documentation and deal with all enquiries, progressing matters to completion and dealing with all post completion formalities.
  4. Serve relevant statutory notices during the Right to Buy process to ensure transactions are concluded in a timely manner  
  5. Deal with disposals of small parcels of freehold land including drafting of appropriate documentation and dealing with all enquires raised by the Buyer's Solicitors.
  6. Investigating title issues and preparing title reports including dealing with title check requests prior to a disposal, to advise as to whether or not the title is sufficient for the disposal envisaged and advising on all implications and matters arising from that title check which would prevent the disposal.
  7. To liaise with other Council departments, third parties, and other persons for the progression of cases
  8. To deal with legal matters and tasks as delegated by the Principal Solicitor (or as delegated) in an efficient and cost-effective manner whilst providing a high-quality professional service to the Council.
  9. Ensure compliance with legislative, procedural, and ethical standards in all casework.
  10. Identify risks and manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
