Help shape fair, transparent contracts that deliver value for money and protect vital public services for our residents.

Legal Services at Kensington is made up of a dedicated and diverse legal professionals committed to improving services for residents in the local community.  Working as a Contracts Solicitor with us means using your legal expertise to make a real difference. You’ll help ensure every contract and procurement decision supports our communities, delivers value and stands up to scrutiny. This role is about more than legal detail – it’s about enabling the Council to act with integrity, spend wisely and serve residents fairly.

Working Style:

This is a hybrid role where you will be based in the office for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community.

What you will be doing:

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you will manage a wide-ranging, challenging and stimulating caseload of contract and procurement work. From the start, you will provide expert legal advice that helps the Council achieve its savings targets and deliver vital services efficiently.

You will lead on complex contract and procurement matters, engaging with stakeholders across departments to find practical, legally sound solutions. Your day might include reviewing a governance report, drafting a critical contract, advising on procurement strategy or preparing documents for engrossment. You will also give clear, timely advice on all aspects of public procurement law and support the Leadership Team and Council Committees by preparing the legal advice for governance reports.

Staying current with legislative changes will be an important part of your role, helping client departments stay informed and compliant.

This is an opportunity to use your legal expertise where it really counts — supporting good governance, ensuring accountability and helping the Council deliver on its commitments to residents.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.

What you will bring

You must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEx entitled to practise in England and Wales. You’ll have proven experience advising on contracts and procurement, with a strong grasp of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, the Procurement Act 2023 and subsidy control matters.

You will bring both technical skill and sound judgement, along with the confidence to handle sensitive issues and work directly with Members and senior officers. You’ll be a collaborative team player who builds trust through clarity, professionalism and integrity.

Strong communication skills are essential — you’ll need to explain complex legal issues clearly, both verbally and in writing. You’ll also bring good working knowledge of local government law, solid negotiation skills and the ability to manage your own caseload independently.

We’re looking for someone who combines attention to detail with a practical approach, balancing legal precision with an understanding of the Council’s wider priorities.

Why join us

At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

You will join a friendly, experienced bi-borough contracts team of 13 lawyers, where support, collaboration and professional growth go hand in hand.
