Childcare Lawyer

Initially 6 Month contract
Rate negotiable (Umbrella)
36 hours per week
- To advise and undertake work on all aspects of Children Services matters, including childcare, and the ability to acquire knowledge in the law and practice relating to community care and mental health.
- To deal with complex casework and undertake or arrange representation in courts, tribunals or inquiries in order to ensure that the Council’s position is represented in the most effective and efficient manner.
- Attend, advise and provide legal services to such Committees and Panels as are required including, the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board, Fostering Panel and Adoption and Permanency Panel and to participate fully in working groups so as to ensure that the Council is well informed and effectively represented.
- To keep up to date with changes in Children Services law and other developments, and to keep clients informed of new legislation and case law relevant to their operations, including providing training to clients, and ensuring that they maintain a sound appreciation of legal requirements.
- To assist in developing policies and good practice in relation to Children Services law.
- To supervise and train legal assistants and trainee solicitors where appropriate in order to ensure the best use of available staff.
- Assist in developing and maintaining effective office practice, systems and procedures (including the use of new and emerging technology) in order to increase efficiency, improve quality standards and contribute to the provision of relevant management information.
