Head of Legal & Deputy Monitoring Officer
Locum | 3-5 Days per Week | Remote Working Available
Unitary Authority in the North West

Our client, a forward-thinking unitary Council in the North West, is looking to appoint an interim Head of Legal and Deputy Monitoring Officer while the permanent recruitment process is underway.

This flexible locum opportunity is available on a full-time or part-time basis (3-5 days per week) and can offer remote working for the right candidate.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading the Council's Legal Services team, setting the tone for high-quality, responsive legal advice
  • Acting as the Council's Deputy Monitoring Officer, ensuring compliance with statutory and constitutional requirements
  • Providing senior-level oversight and advice to officers and members
  • Supporting the recruitment and transition process for the permanent post-holder

What We're Looking For:

We're seeking a proactive, hands-on leader with:

  • Significant experience in local government law and governance
  • Proven ability to manage legal teams and advise at senior leadership level
  • The confidence to take on the Deputy Monitoring Officer role with professionalism and political awareness
