About your new roleOur Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public liability (PL), employers' liability (EL) and product liability claims, across the private sector and the public sector. Weightmans' team is second-to-none in providing defendant litigation services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams and as part of our wider specialism we have a dedicated Casualty Fraud team. We receive direct instructions from both insureds and insurers.
We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor or Legal Executive with 1- 3 years PQE to work closely alongside senior case handlers in one of our Casualty teams, based in our Birmingham office.
You will be provided with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cases including EL/PL but with a primary focus on Occupational Stress matters. These cases are varied in theme, document heavy and factually complex. We are looking for someone with an eye for detail who is comfortable managing the high quantity of documents associated with each case. This is an excellent opportunity to build strong client relationships and really make your mark. Whilst experience is preferred we are open to all candidates especially those who have a can do attitude and are genuinely keen to be part of our team. The role can be varied and we would like someone who can adapt to change and proactively solve problems.
Your key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Managing disclosure documents in respect of occupational stress claims
- Assisting fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements, reports to clients and preparation for court hearings
- Attending client meetings and court hearings to support fee earners
- Assisting with the instruction of Counsel and experts
- Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
- Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
- Supporting the team’s business development activities
