£59,739 - £63,159 per annum

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the London Borough of Redbridge for an experienced, skilled and dynamic Senior Homelessness/Housing Needs Lawyer to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service on a 2-year fixed term basis.

You will report to the Principal Lawyer Litigation within the Legal Department and meet regularly with the Head of Housing Needs but, you will support and assist the Housing Department with increased challenges to decisions made by the Housing Officers in Housing Needs Service.  This lawyer will in addition train the team to enable them to confidently address queries and respond to potential challenges.

You will provide the Council with expert advice and guidance on aspects of civil litigation related work and have conduct of civil cases in Tribunals, the County Court, High Court and Magistrates Court especially within the area of Housing including good knowledge of the Renters Rights Bill.

Responsibilities -

  • Provide expertise, knowledge and advice on all matters relating to litigation, advising on evidence and procedure and the conduct of any trials.
  • Conduct a full range of work types in this area of work to include housing law and debt recovery.
  • Utilising skills and experience gained within a similar position, you will report to the Principal Lawyer (Litigation) and will have your own complex and varied caseload.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX or similar qualification
  • Have experience in civil law and procedure, preferably in a local government context
  • Excellent knowledge of the law and practice in this area of law
