The States of Guernsey are looking for are looking for a Child and Social Care Lawyer to join the Law Officers of the Crown.

The Law Officers’ Chambers are responsible for providing legal advice and assistance, including representation, to the governments of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark and other public sector clients.

The Children and Social Care Unit of the Law Officers of the Crown requires a lawyer with relevant experience to play a leading role in the provision of legal advice and advocacy relating to children and social care. This includes providing day to day advice and the preparation of tribunal and court proceedings across the full range of public law children cases, adoption, education and adult safeguarding including capacity, safeguarding and guardianship. The postholder will be a Guernsey qualified Advocate or willing and able to qualify with a view to undertaking the full range of public law children cases, adoption and guardianship hearings and potentially judicial reviews arising from this area of work. Whilst this post is intended to be fully engaged on children and social care cases, there may be occasions, where urgent or necessary, when the post holder will be expected to assist with the provision of other duties falling to the other Units in the Law Officers’ Chambers and to the Law Officers.

The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and they have demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.

This role comes with a competitive salary, progressive annual leave and entitlement to a pension scheme.

For candidates who would be required to relocate to the Bailiwick of Guernsey, we also offer a relocation package to help with the cost of moving over to the Island. This relocation package offers different solutions depending on an individual’s circumstances.

This role offers off-Island candidates an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit (see details below). This permit will also enable candidates to bring immediate family members with them who will be permitted to work on the Island in any sector. There are also good schools on Island for those candidates looking to bring their families with them.
