Job Description:

Senior Legal Counsel

Interim

Rate - £440 Umbrella per day

Annual equivalent of £85k per annum

Central London, Hybrid-Working (3 days per week in office)

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Counsel to join a Central Government team on an interim basis. This role is to work on a high profile caseload over a wide range of legal practice areas, including debt capital markets, money markets, derivatives, financial markets regulations, lending, fund management, commercial contracts, property, intellectual property, employment, disputes and public law matters. Issues of foreign law, public international law matters and legislative drafting also periodically arise.

The jobholder will be expected to work with the Head of Legal and the other senior members of the team to provide strategic and operational legal advice and to develop the legal function.

Key Requirements for the Senior Legal Counsel

The ideal Candidate for the Senior Legal Counsel role will include:

  • An experienced lawyer qualified to practise law in England & Wales (ideally with at least 10-15 years of experience gained in a law firm or in-house at a financial institution, public body or other private company)
  • Experience in at least one of the following: financial markets transactions, commercial contracts or public law work
  • Experience in digital bonds, other innovative transactions or the use of tech solutions would also be desirable but is not a prerequisite
  • Excellent legal analytical, drafting skills and project management skills.
  • Excellent legal risk awareness, including an ability to build solutions and deliver pragmatic outcome-focused judgements that take account of the business environment.

Key responsibilities for the Senior Legal Counsel

The successful Candidate for this Senior Legal Counsel role will be required to:

  • To provide robust and professional legal support and advice (in consultation with external legal advisers where necessary) on debt management, cash management, fund management and lending activities, as well as on strategic and innovative projects.
  • To document and negotiate counterparty agreements including GMRA and, occasionally, ISDA.
  • To monitor financial sector regulatory and best practice developments and other market changes and identify potential impacts on the client
  • To provide advice on public law matters
  • To provide legal support and advice in relation to any other matters as they may arise (e.g., commercial agreements with suppliers, regulatory matters, disputes, premises).
  • To contribute to the further development of the legal team's activities, knowhow and documentation, including tech solutions.
  • To assist in the procurement, instruction and management of law firms and other external legal advisers. This list is not exhaustive; the jobholder will be expected to be fully engaged in both advisory and operational issues and work positively with other Risk team members to avoid a silo approach to the team's various responsibilities

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established team that prides itself in the first-class service it offers to clients.
