About Camden
Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind.  Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.

What You’ll Be Doing
Join Camden's dynamic Legal Services team, where you’ll play a critical role in breaking down barriers while embracing a risk-aware approach. You'll engage with senior officers and Members to offer high-quality legal services, with a focus on social justice.   Collaborate closely with various service directorates to ensure efficient delivery of Council priorities, all while managing a personal caseload that includes high-profile and complex cases. Become a trusted advisor, advocate, and problem solver as you contribute to Camden's vision of innovative, responsive legal solutions.

All About You
The ideal candidate will be qualified to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in England and Wales, with extensive management experience supervising legal teams in an in-house context. They must possess strong oral and written communication skills, providing legal advice within local government on complex adult social care issues, including Deprivation of Liberty cases and Judicial Reviews, as well as matters related to the Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act. Experience in local government education law, particularly regarding Special Educational Needs (SEN), is highly desirable. The individual should effectively manage a diverse workload, act as an ambassador for legal services, and demonstrate a commitment to fostering collaborative relationships while upholding the Council’s values of diversity, equality, and inclusion.

What We Offer
At Camden, you’ll receive a host of benefits. From flexible working to 27 days annual leave (+ bank holidays!). We also know that a work life balance is extremely important so we also offer family leave, loan schemes and access to our incredible staff networks. We also have an incredible pensions scheme.

Inclusion and Diversity
We want Camden Council to be a great place to work and to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and those of Other Ethnicities, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equalities and justice remains at the heart of everything we do.

Anonymised Application – in keeping with Camden’s commitment to inclusion the recruitment to this role is anonymised and supports the objective of reducing the impact of unconscious bias.

Asking for Adjustments
Camden is committed to making our recruitment practices barrier-free and as accessible as possible for everyone. This includes making adjustments or changes for disabled people, neurodiverse people or people with long-term health conditions. If you would like us to do anything differently during the application, interview or assessment process, including providing information in an alternative format, please contact us on 020 7974 6655, at resourcing@camden.gov.uk or post to 5 Pancras Square, London, N1C 4AG
