This is an exciting opportunity to use your legal, compliance and governance expertise as our statutory Data Protection Officer (DPO). Reporting to the Chief Officer and SIRO, you’ll work at a senior level in the organisation acting as the councils strategic lead on information compliance performance. You’ll work closely with the Council’s Information Governance Team to provide advice and guidance across the organisation, including to our elected members, as well as working with key partners such as the Information Commissioners Office to ensure the council meets its statutory information compliance obligations.

Well suited to a data, legal or compliance professional with an eye for detail, you will use your proven expertise and technical skills to guide and develop policies and systems, ensuring required training is accessed by all staff. Your confidence and expertise in representing at board level, dealing with senior officers, resolving complex complaints and applying your transferrable skills and knowledge of information compliance legislation such as FOIs, EIR, PECR, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act will be evident.

As the focal point for members of the public raising information compliance issues, queries or complaints, you’ll use your competent investigative and client care skills to undertake associated investigations. You’ll use your proven relationship management skills to motivate and support designated staff from across the council who have specific operational responsibility for information compliance matters. You’ll have plenty of scope to use your excellent leadership and self- motivation skills, as well as display your talent for being well organised and able to effectively plan and prioritise your own work making decisions independently. With the freedom to work autonomously, you’ll also get plenty of exposure to networking and collaboration with colleagues across the country and public sector.
