Job Description:

A well-regarded local authority in the South West is looking for a dedicated Locum Housing Disrepair Lawyer to join their legal team on an initial 3-month contract, with a high likelihood of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a full caseload of housing disrepair matters, including pre-action protocol, litigation, and settlement negotiations.

  • Provide legal advice to housing and property teams across the council.

  • Draft and review pleadings, witness statements, and correspondence.

  • Attend virtual court hearings and case conferences as required.

  • Liaise with external parties including counsel, surveyors, and solicitors.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with a valid practising certificate.

  • Demonstrable experience in housing disrepair law, preferably within a local authority or public sector setting.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and the Defective Premises Act 1972.

  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload efficiently.
