Job Description:

£36,656 - £43,628 per annum

The Service & Team:

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join our Legal Property Team on a permanent full-time basis. We are looking for someone with 1 to 5+  years post qualification experience or equivalent.

You will be part of an experienced Team offering specialist advice to the Council on legal property matters. The lawyer post will involve a case load of interesting and varied freehold and leasehold property transactions involving the council’s property portfolio.   Life is never dull with farms, beaches, harbours, business parks, heritage properties and transport hubs among the mix.  You will also be involved in collaborating with colleagues on wider project work, including regeneration schemes, housing and restructure of the council’s operational property estate.

This is your chance to make a real difference and support the Council’s work on increasing the supply of affordable housing, levelling up regeneration schemes and achieving its carbon reduction commitments.

The Role:

Whilst the team works out of a Truro location, there may be opportunities for some hybrid working. We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

 What you’ll need to succeed:

If you have got the motivation, experience and talent for this role we would love to hear from you.  Don’t worry if you do not have local government experience as we will give you the support you need to develop.

For a conversation about the role please contact Helen Furneaux or Katrina Nicholls on 01872 322222.

What you’ll get in return:

Cornwall Council’s ambition is to be an employer of choice, a high performing Council and a learning organisation. We commit to providing a reward and benefits package to attract, motivate and reward our employees. We offer a range of flexible working options to our staff. This helps provide our employees with a greater work/life balance. Whilst still ensuring that service needs are met.

Our core employee rewards and benefits include:

  • a competitive salary.
  • a defined benefit pension scheme, based on your career average earnings. This includes the option for extra voluntary contributions
  • a generous annual leave entitlement with the potential to purchase additional leave.
  • A national award-winning employee health and wellbeing programme
  • Employee benefits scheme giving employees access to a wide range of discounts to local and national goods and services.

Additional Information:

  • Please summarise your recent experience in working in the field of legal property.
  • Please given an example of where you have been part of a team working on a project, what was your role and how did that contribute to the outcome of the project?
  • What motivates you to apply for this role and what do you think you can bring to the role?

Application Process

Please attach a supporting statement to your application, you can add your Education & Qualifications details manually using the application form timeline or you can upload your CV. Remember to demonstrate why you are suitable against each of the points marked as ‘Application’ on the Role Profile using examples from your experience or transferable skills. This might be through qualifications or descriptive examples from your work / personal experience, which clearly illustrates what you did and the effect it had.
