Locum Principal Planning Lawyer

London Council

6+ months

A highly regarded local authority in London is seeking a Principal Planning Lawyer to lead their award-winning team on a locum basis for at least 6 months. This local authority has an excellent reputation and is offering an exclusive opportunity for an experienced Lawyer to manage the Planning team and be involved at a high level in the council, advising on strategic, corporate and governance matters.

The successful locum Principal Planning Lawyer will possess the following experience:

  • Background in planning and highways law (essential)
  • Prior management experience (essential)
  • Experience working in local government (essential)
  • Experience advising on related governance matters (essential)
  • Experience working in a London council (desirable)

The Locum Principal Planning Lawyer will be leading the Planning team of 7 staff, comprised of Lawyers and Senior Lawyers. This is a high profile role with no casework; there will be no drafting of agreements nor routine pieces of advice, the Lawyers in the team undertake this work. The planning work in this Principal role relates more to strategic and corporate work, and legally grey areas. There will also be governance work to advise on in relation to committees, members, codes of conduct etc.

This is a hybrid role, with regular office attendance required. The council's offices are based in a central, vibrant area of London with access to many shops, museums and other amenities.
