Position: Education Lawyer
Organisation: South East based Local Authority
Duration: 3-month rolling locum contract
Working Pattern: Full time
Working Arrangement: Remote working with attendance once a quarter for a meeting held by the Director of Law
Hourly Rate: Up to £60 per hour Umbrella

Venn Group’s legal recruitment team are working with a reputable Local Authority in their search for an Education Lawyer to join their highly regarded Adult Social Care and Education team.
 
The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced Solicitor/CILEX Lawyer/Barrister (4 years + PQE) with a proven track record of successfully handling a caseload of SEN appeals, providing general education advice and conducting judicial reviews. A strong working knowledge of key education legislation is required, in particular an ability to conduct special education needs appeals and to provide advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
 
Main responsibilities and duties shall include:
  1. To hold a caseload of SEN appeals, general education advice and judicial reviews
  2. To conduct special education needs appeals and to provide advice to a wide range of stakeholders
  3. To work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  4. To provide experience skill and advice to Members, Officers and Partners on legal matters, policies and corporate issues, ensuring the Council’s best interests are achieved within the law
  5. To support the junior staff in the team (paralegals and trainees)
  6. To ensure the timely delivery of effective legal services to the Council and its partners with maximum efficiency and economy
  7. To utilise the technology implemented in the team for maximum efficiency and effectiveness and to identify and help implement continual improvements in the team systems and processes.  To support change projects where necessary
  8. To provide supervision and coaching to staff within the Legal Services team according to the level of your expertise and experience
