Locum Childcare Advocacy Lawyer

A local authority in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced Childcare Advocacy Lawyer to join its established legal team on a locum basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of 1 year’s PQE in childcare law who enjoys advocacy and is confident managing public law proceedings from issue through to final hearing. The successful candidate will be required to undertake regular advocacy and attend court at least once per week.

You will join a supportive team advising Children’s Services on a broad range of public law childcare matters, working closely with social workers, managers and senior stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.

The Role

• Managing a caseload of public law childcare matters from commencement through to conclusion.
• Conducting advocacy on behalf of the local authority, including contested and final hearings.
• Advising Children’s Services on statutory duties, safeguarding and childcare law.
• Drafting applications, statements, care plans and associated legal documentation.
• Supporting pre-proceedings work under the Public Law Outline (PLO).
• Working collaboratively with social workers, senior officers and external partners.

About You

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate.
• At least 1 year’s PQE in childcare law.
• Experience handling public law childcare proceedings.
• Proven final hearing advocacy experience.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Available to attend court in person at least once per week.
