£Competitive salary and benefits
We are looking for a paralegal with around a year’s experience in education and SEN work to join the team. This is a permanent role with real client contact from the outset, and it offers the right person room to develop with a growing boutique firm.
About SV Law
SV Law is a specialist education and special educational needs practice acting for local authorities and schools. We are a close-knit firm of about a dozen people based in the Knowledge Quarter, Impact Hub Euston in London NW1. Our work focuses on complex disputes around SEN at the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability), Upper Tribunal, and High Court judicial reviews. Our team works ‘hand-in-glove’ with local authority decision makers. The work is demanding and high volume in places and offers scope for developing advocacy skills.
The role
We are looking for a paralegal to work alongside our lawyers on a varied SEN caseload. You will run your own files under supervision, draft tribunal documents, prepare bundles and witness statements, review evidence, and deal directly with local authority officers and schools. You will be given real responsibility early and the support to handle it. Importantly, this is a role in which you may have the opportunity to conduct your own advocacy: appearing for our clients at the First-tier Tribunal and in the Upper Tribunal, rather than preparing cases for someone else to argue.
We are happy to support the right candidate through qualification through the SQE.
About you
At least 1 year’s paralegal experience in education and SEN law
A law degree, GDL, SQE or BPC, or equivalent legal qualification
Confident drafting tribunal documents and correspondence with limited supervision
Comfortable dealing directly with clients, parents’ representatives and other professionals
Well organised, able to manage a high-volume caseload and keep to tribunal deadlines
What we offer
Salary package is competitive and will reflect your expertise and experience.
We are interested in candidates with considerably more than 1 year’s experience as well. There is no upper limit: tell us what you have done, and we will assess the role and the package accordingly.
How to apply
Please send a CV and a short covering letter to satnam.virdi@sv-law.co.uk. If you would like an informal, confidential conversation about the role before applying, we will be happy to discuss it with you.
