£47,085 to £57,507 per annum (relocation expenses may also be considered)

Hours – 37 (flexible working may be considered)

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified solicitor or barrister (or someone with equivalent experience) to join a dynamic and forward-thinking authority located in a beautiful part of Hampshire and with excellent employee satisfaction rates.  

The role is based in Andover with free, on-site staff parking and easy access from the A303 or via public transport (London Waterloo is only just over an hour away by train).  Other benefits include a generous holiday allowance, on-site staff restaurant, subsidised leisure facilities, flexi-time and a defined benefits pension scheme.

The jobholder will be advising and influencing officers at all Council levels, including senior management and elected members, so you’ll need experience of providing complex advice in a political environment, with experience of working within Local Government and an understanding of current public sector challenges. You must have a commercial and strategic approach.

This role is a politically restricted post.

As a senior member of our Legal & Democratic Service team, your role will include:
  • Supporting the Head of Legal and Democratic Services to provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective legal service by having primary management of the workload and giving effective leadership to the team
  • Deputising for the Head of Legal and Democratic Service and act as Deputy Monitoring Officer
  • Responsible for providing legal advice, representation, advocacy and assistance in all areas of law and legal matters arising from the exercise of the Council’s functions
  • Creating, implementing and managing the development and operation of systems and processes for delivery of legal services
