Two Year Fixed Term Contract (FTC)

We are looking for an experienced Housing Lawyer to join the Housing Team in Legal Services on a 2 year fixed term contract. This is a small but busy team in a high profile area of work.

You will be responsible to the Team Leader for the provision of high quality legal advice and support to the Council and external clients and be able to carry an extensive caseload of housing law matters, but with a particular emphasis on anti-social behaviour cases. 

Key Responsibilities

You must be able to deliver:- 

  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of housing law, particularly as it relates to the management of secure Council tenancies.
  • Extensive experience of managing a large mixed case load of housing and civil law matters. In particular the candidate must have experience of providing advice on and using the range of tools available to local authorities for tackling anti-social behaviour. This includes but is not limited to civil injunctions and claims for possession based on anti-social behaviour. 
  • Experience of providing ad hoc advice to clients at meetings, in writing or on the telephone.  
  • Strong advocacy skills and experience of conducting advocacy in the County Court and Magistrates Court is a key requirement for this post.
  • The successful candidate should be competent, self-motivated, a good team player and possess excellent organisational and time management skills.

Requirements

You must be a solicitor or barrister entitled to hold a practising certificate, have a degree level qualification (or equivalent) and at least 3 years demonstrable post qualification experience in this area of work.
