Job Description:

Salary: £117,000 - £137,000

Our vision is for Manchester to be in the top flight of world-class cities by 2025. The task we’ve set ourselves is challenging. It will take hard work, collaboration, energy and commitment to achieve our vision. But Manchester is a city that gets things done.

To support this vision, we need a strong and effective corporate centre within the City Council, with excellent governance and an enabling, ‘can do’ and supportive culture. Our new City Solicitor will embody that approach.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and managing a large team of over 250, the role covers legal and democratic services, and is the Council’s Monitoring Officer and Deputy Returning Officer. We also provide shared service arrangements with two other Greater Manchester authorities.

With a new Chief Executive in post for just over a year, the City Solicitor will also be part of a new and dynamic senior leadership team with a focus on change. Given the size of the role and the city, we are looking for exceptional candidates with significant legal services experience within a large authority, ideally at MO or Deputy MO level, with a track record of modernising services and the ability to offer clear advice at a strategic level. You will be robust and rigorous, able to create strong relationships with senior officers and elected Members, and keen to fully contribute to the ‘Our Manchester’ strategy.

To find out how to be a part of Manchester’s success story, please click on the 'Enquire/Apply' button below or contact our advising consultants Luke Judd (0113 205 6077) or Ella Milward-Hamylton (0207 426 3376).
