Locum Housing Lawyer – 3 Month Contract (Hybrid/Remote)
Competitive Hourly Rate (Umbrella)

Venn Group’s specialist South East legal team is currently recruiting for a Locum Housing Lawyer to join a respected local authority on a 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing litigation professional seeking a flexible hybrid/remote position, with a minimum requirement of 2 days per week office attendance.

As a Locum Housing Lawyer, you will play a key role in supporting Exchequer Services income streams, handling a varied and rewarding caseload.

Main duties include:

  • Conducting general litigation activities, including issuing claims and reviewing applications and court/Tribunal documentation

  • Providing legal advice, support, and case management across housing rent, variable service charges, and Housing Benefit Appeals

  • Managing your own caseload of housing-related matters

  • Reviewing and authorising documentation prepared by officers for presentation before Courts and Tribunals

  • Exercising rights of audience in relation to the Council’s housing matters

  • Taking full responsibility and accountability for authorised cases, advice, support, case management, and legal representation concerning housing rents, benefits, and leasehold and freehold litigation

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx with strong experience in housing litigation

  • Proven ability to manage a busy and varied caseload independently

  • Experience of local authority housing work is highly desirable

  • Advocacy experience and confidence representing matters before Courts and Tribunals

  • Ability to attend the office a minimum of 2 days per week
