About the role & About us
Cornwall Council is a large Unitary Authority with a progressive and forward thinking Legal Service. We are looking for a talented and experienced Property lawyer who wants to make a difference.

We are offering a fast paced and rewarding career to a candidate with a track record of delivering excellent quality legal advice and client care. You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of straightforward and complex corporate and property matters and will be required to provide legal advice on matters which are politically sensitive and high risk.

Our forthcoming projects are likely to be challenging and involve advice in relation to the development of a wide range of innovative service delivery models and a number of high value capital schemes including major infrastructure, housing and economic development projects. We are looking for an individual who can work closely with clients, understand their objectives and offer a solution-focussed approach. You may be required to provide advice at Council, Cabinet and Committee meetings and also provide advice on areas of law that fall outside the remit of the Property & Highways Team.

You will be required to mentor and support the Legal Officers within the team and also deputise in the absence of the Business Partner.
You should have an up to date knowledge of local government legislative framework and administrative law.  You must have a high level of negotiation, influencing and mediation skills.  Practical experience of democratic decision making processes and an ability to evaluate complex information and apply knowledge to the law to create solutions to complex and strategic problems is required.  The successful candidate should be able to deal with complex legal work and be an expert in property law.

A degree or equivalent qualification and membership of a relevant professional body - Solicitor or Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with significant proven practical and theoretical legal experience and expertise on matters is required.
