Cornwall Council is a large, innovative and commercially focused Unitary Authority with a progressive and forward thinking Legal Service. We have are looking for a talented commercial lawyer who wants to make a difference.
 
We are offering a fast paced and rewarding career to a candidate with a track record of delivering excellent quality legal advice and client care. You’ll be responsible for managing a varied caseload of straightforward and complex corporate and commercial matters and will be required to provide legal advice on matters which are politically sensitive and high risk.
 
Our forthcoming projects are likely to be challenging and involve advice in relation to the development of a wide range of innovative service delivery models and a number of high value capital schemes through including major infrastructure, housing and economic development projects. We are looking for an individual who can work closely with clients, understand their objectives and offer a solution-focused approach.

You may be required to provide advice at Council, Cabinet and Committee meetings and also provide advice on areas of law that fall outside the remit of the Commercial and Employment Team.

About you
We are looking for candidates with an up to date knowledge of local government legislative framework and administrative law as well as good negotiation, influencing and mediation skills.  Practical experience of democratic decision making processes and an ability to evaluate complex information and apply knowledge to the law to create solutions to complex and strategic problems is required.
 
Candidates will be a solicitor, barrister entitled to hold a practising certificate or a FCILEX at the time of appointment.
