Job Description:

The Regulatory Department is one of the largest in the country and is recognised by clients and other lawyers as being one of the best. We advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations and individuals.

Your primary role will be to provide advice as part of Weightmans’ police conduct team offering advice to police forces.

We are seeking an experienced Police Associate 3YRS + PQE to provide high quality and prompt legal advice.  Previous experience of advising a police force is desirable but not essential.  Any experience in regulatory law will be helpful.  Advocacy experience is not essential.

Our police team have a flexible working policy that means you have the ability to modify your working whilst still servicing our client’s needs!

You will be asked to
  • Advise on gross misconduct cases including the drafting of Regulation 30 notices, disclosure, preparation of bundles and all preparations for pre hearings and hearings
  • Carry out similar work for accelerated hearings
  • Give general advice on police conduct matters
  • Liaise with various parties such as other solicitors, experts, counsel and clients
  • Providing regular face to face training to police officers.
  • Maintain Case Manager diary and action lists
  • Draft various documents including Court applications
  • Satisfy standards of client care and compliance with SLAs
  • Complete Client MI procedures
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Comply with relevant rules, policies and procedures
  • Keep up to date with legal developments
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values
This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. You will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You
You will be a qualified solicitor, ideally with regulatory or in-house experience. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to:
  • Be qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales with a minimum 3YRS PQE;
  • Be able to provide effective written and oral advice;
  • Organise a complex workload and work collaboratively with various parties such as other solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel and clients;
  • Maintain Case Manager diary and action lists;
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets;
  • Comply with relevant rules, policies and procedures;
  • Keep up to date with legal developments;
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values;
  • Excellent IT skills;
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise;
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative;
  • Excellent team working skills.
