Based in Southampton, the Southampton, Fareham & Havant Legal Partnership is an outcome-focused service recognised for its dedication to improving the communities in which we live and work and delivering professional excellence. We provide strategic and professional advice and services covering all aspects of local government law.

We currently have a vacancy on our management team for a Senior Solicitor / Team Leader to lead our very active commercial procurement and property team. We are seeking an experienced lawyer with supervisory experience and at least 5 years PQE providing expert advice in either contracts and procurement or commercial property law. The Team operates in a fast paced, proactive and dynamic client focused way with our three Council clients, and you would be leading a highly performing team reporting directly to the Head of Legal Partnerships. This role requires someone with leadership skills, enthusiasm and dynamism to handle a wide-ranging caseload of predominantly commercial matters including multi partner projects and instructions.

The Council has a fully flexible working system that includes home/hybrid working, with adaptable working hours subject to meeting our clients’ needs. As this is a supervisory role some regular office attendance will be required for team, management and client meetings as well as joining a regular in-office Duty Solicitor rota.

The current salary is up to £61,658 plus benefits which include:

  • Flexi Time Scheme and family friendly policies
  • 28-34 (length of service dependent) days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Generous Local Government Pension scheme

The Council is looking for a practising Solicitor or Barrister with 5+ years Post-Qualified Experience and excellent knowledge of either procurement / contracts or property law or both. You will need strong leadership and inter-personal, drafting, negotiating and advisory skills and competence with IT and case management systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate an enabling, positive approach to finding solutions to complex problems as well as the ability to anticipate and adapt to business and client needs, appreciate risk management issues and work flexibly across a multi-skilled team.
