The Council seeks an experienced lawyer with a background in commercial contracts, a can-do attitude, and a desire to improve public services, to join its Contracts & Commercial team. The post holder will be required to deal with a significant and varied caseload including contracts for the provision of services (including corporate and people centred services), supply agreements, event, and art agreements, as well as loan and grant agreements and associated legal documentation. Applicants should ideally be familiar with the impact of public procurement law on public authorities, as well as the new subsidy control regime. Knowledge and experience of local government law and governance would be advantageous, but is not essential.

This is an opportunity to work in an exciting and forward-thinking local authority as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary legal department during the implementation of change and improvement plans. The work will be fast paced and highly varied in nature. These posts present an attractive and challenging opportunity for highly motivated individuals to bring their enthusiasm to the team and to build on their experience.

We offer agile working, a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme, flexible working arrangements and a work environment which gives you the opportunity to use and develop your skills within a forward-thinking service.

You need to be flexible and innovative in your approach, helping us to support the Council’s challenging aims and priorities for the city and its residents and the delivery of the City Plan. Experience of working in local government is desirable but not essential.

A generous market supplement may be offered to successful candidates for an initial 12-month period and then subject to review.

Please note that in accordance with the Council’s policy, employees who are in a formal redeployment situation will be considered in the first instance for all vacancies.
