Employer type:

Job Description:

£44,624 - £49,651 per year

The Role

Liverpool has become the most exciting and rapidly evolving place to live and work in the North West. This is reflected in the Council's City Solicitor’s Office, which deals with a significant quantity of challenging and stimulating legal work.

The office works closely with clients including the Private Sector Housing Service which commenced its highly successful selective licencing scheme in 2015, leading to a huge increase in targeted enforcement work to improve standards for private tenants.

The service was recently successful in receiving government confirmation of a renewed scheme focusing efforts on particular areas of the city.

This post is an exciting opportunity to join the team at a critical point, co-ordinating legal enforcement work to continue the drive to help occupiers. Responsible for preparation, laying of information and prosecuting cases for the service, you will also appear at tribunals and develop key enforcement policies and procedures.

An able advocate with experience of public sector enforcement, you will have a passion to help the most vulnerable.

A Solicitor or Barrister, you will have excellent organisational, drafting, legal research and communication skills, be competent in using standard Microsoft Office applications, and be able to prioritise your work in a dynamic environment.

You need to be flexible and innovative in your approach, helping us to support the Council’s challenging aims and priorities for the City and its residents and the delivery of the City Plan. Experience of working in local government is desirable but not essential.

This is an opportunity to work in an exciting and forward-thinking local authority as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary legal department during the implementation of change and improvement plans following the recent Best Value report on the Council.

The work will be fast paced and highly varied in nature. This post presents an attractive and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual to bring their enthusiasm to the team and to build on their experience.

We offer a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme, flexible working arrangements and a work environment which gives you the opportunity to use and develop your skills within a forward-thinking service.

Liverpool City Council is committed to having a workforce that is representative of the communities we serve.
